“We know what’s at stake,” Freeman said. “We’ve got a chance to be champions, and we know they've got nothing to lose, and they're going to come out and do everything they can. https://brindes-sa.com/ It’s our job to go out there and hopefully put together another good ballgame.”

The purpose of this article is to examine the probabilities of winning the World Series for all possible game combinations. For example, what is the actual probability of winning if you fall behind 0–1 as St. Louis did, or 1–2 as Boston did? What if you’re ahead or behind two games to none?

Given the symmetry of the numbers in Table 3 we can concentrate on the changes in probability for the team that is behind in order to estimate the importance of each game. Losing Game One decreases the probability of winning by 13.8%. Losing Game Two when behind 1–0 decreases the winning probability by 16.6%. Losing Game Three when tied at 1–1 reduces the chances by 17.9% while losing Game Three when behind 2–0 reduces the chances by 19.6%. A loss in Game Four while behind 2–1 lessens the chances of winning by 20.5% and a loss in Game Five when tied at 2–2 lowers the probability of winning by 18.3%.

Freeman's homer was the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history as well as the third Series walk-off homer of any kind for a team that was trailing, following Joe Carter's World Series-winning home run for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993 and Kirk Gibson's Game 1-winning home run for the Dodgers in 1988. In particular, Freeman's home run was widely compared to Gibson's off the Athletics' Dennis Eckersley, as both players were playing through injuries at the time and the Dodgers were down by a run and down to their last out in Game 1 of the World Series. Fox broadcaster Joe Davis' call of "...she is gone!" echoed that of legendary Dodgers and then-NBC broadcaster Vin Scully for the Gibson homer, and Davis also added, "Gibby, meet Freddie!" Both Gibson's and Freeman's home runs were to right field at Dodger Stadium in almost the same spot and both came at 8:37 PM Pacific Time. Game 1 has been widely referred to as one of the greatest World Series games of all time.

If he’s anything like the Gerrit Cole we saw in Game 1, when he held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over six-plus innings at Dodger Stadium, then the Yankees pulse that was revived in Game 4 could quicken in Game 5.

Game 4 world series

The cushion allowed Yankees manager Aaron Boone to not use Luke Weaver, the team's best reliever, for the ninth inning after the right-hander tossed 1⅓ innings, which should make him available in Game 5 when the Yankees will attempt to become the first team to force a Game 6 after trailing 3-0 in a World Series.

Behind him, the Yankees bullpen has been taxed heavily over the past three games, as neither Carlos Rodón, Clarke Schmidt nor Luis Gil went longer than four innings. Reliever Clay Holmes has pitched in every game this series; Luke Weaver, Tim Hill, Jake Cousins and Mark Leiter Jr. have appeared in three of four games. A long start from Cole would be a relief, but manager Aaron Boone won’t have the cushion to give anyone, even his ace, a long leash.

Mark Leiter Jr. struck out Shohei Ohtani, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone made sure he didn’t get beat by Mookie Betts (or Freddie Freeman lurking behind him) without using the best pitcher at his disposal, closer Luke Weaver.

Freddie Freeman’s fourth home run of the series — he’s hit one in every game — gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but this time the Yankees fought back. Their bullpen made up for a so-so outing by rookie starter Luis Gil (four runs in four innings), Volpe and Wells combined to reach base six times, and No. 9 hitter Alex Verdugo drove in two runs.

When the game 3 of the world series

Entering this series, MLB teams took 3-0 series leads 40 times. Thirty-one of them ended in sweeps. The Yankees can only hope Luis Gil shows up and pitches better than Carlos Rodón and Clarke Schmidt did in Games 2 and 3. And even then, considering how New York's offense has performed this series, the prospect of Los Angeles going with an all-bullpen game on Tuesday doesn't seem all that disadvantageous.

Now, if the Yanks don’t respond and start doing their own impression of the 2004 Red Sox, the Dodgers are dangerously close to turning this blockbuster battle of iconic franchises and signature stars into a matchup of minimum length.

Los Angeles rallied back from an early hole to beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 at Yankee Stadium, accomplishing one more piece of history with the biggest comeback to clinch a World Series in baseball history.
